Day Tripping in Brooklyn
(Clockwise from Top Left) I got yelled at for taking this photo; Eileen and Lauren, Park Slope; Lauren and Brittany; Williamsburg has its share of hipster beards. |

Tennis, La Sera @ The Bowery Ballroom
I saw Colorado based Tennis and Los Angeles based La Sera at The Bowery Ballroom in NYC a few weeks back. Tennis played songs from their debut album which is based on an eight month long sailing trip husband and wife/bandmates Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore took in 2009. The couple sailed along the East Coast to the Bahamas. Neither of them had ever sailed before. La Sera is Katy Goodman's (of Vivian Girls) side project; check out their album "Hardly Art". Great shows. Wish I had brought more than the point and shoot with me.

One From NYC
Few weeks back I was in NYC, here's one shot I took waiting to get on the subway to Brooklyn. Pretty refreshing to see this kid exploring his surroundings instead of watching something on an iPhone.

Sean Anderson - Influential Pigment
I brought the instant camera out for some snapshots at friend and artist Sean Anderson's opening night of his new solo show 'Influential Pigment'. Sean put together some inspiring works - my favorite pieces were the vibrant oil on canvas paintings of jungle huts. Be sure to check it out for yourself at Anderson Art Collective in Carpinteria; the show runs through April 10th. Also, you can check out some of the works on Facebook .

Foster The People - Santa Barbara
I was lucky enough to catch Foster The People's sold out show at Soho Music Club here in Santa Barbara on March 8th (and shoot the above images). The three piece, Los Angeles based band is quickly generating a lot of buzz; especially for a group who currently only has a 3 song EP. The band is finishing up their debut full length album, "Torches" and it will be released on May 24th. Until then be sure to check out my two favorite tracks "Pumped Up Kicks" and "Helena Beat". They might be your new favorite lo-fi indie band, but either way you won't be able to get "Pumped Up Kicks" out of your head.

Eric Panofsky, Designer
I had the studio set up for a product shoot, but I asked Eric to step in front of the camera for a portrait; after all sometimes after dealing with clients, designers can feel a little bit like a product themselves. Check his work out here.

BANFF
I checked out the first day of the Banff Film Festival last night at the Arlington Theatre here in Santa Barbara. Some great mountain adventure short films (skiing, mountain climbing, river kayaking, mountain biking, etc.). Tonight is the second night of the festival, definitely worth checking out here in SB or when it comes to your town. It will make you want to get outside, I promise.

Shinya Kimura @ Chabott Engineering
shinya kimura @ chabott engineering from Henrik Hansen on Vimeo.
Great short film about Shinya Kimura, a custom motorcycle craftsman. Beautifully shot with a Canon 5D and 7D by Henrik Hansen henrikhansen.net. Thanks to my friend Steve @ makesmith.com for finding this.

The Santa Cruz boys "Tarp Surfing"
Santa Cruz's Homer Hernald and Nic Lamb "Tarp Surfing". When it's summer and the waves are small you have to get creative.

Back in the Day
This is an old one. It was one of my first successful water shots and it is still one of my favorites for the lighting and sense of wide-open space. A friend and I drove up to this spot and sat in the car on the beach waiting patiently for the winds to switch. Finally just before dark the winds turned offshore and we quickly suited up and got on it. This was the only wave I photographed before the sun slipped behind the hills; but I had a good feeling we had gotten the shot. I swam back to the beach, grabbed my board from the car and enjoyed a few waves before dark.
The shot ended up running as a poster for LX Eyewear.

Hello Kitty
I came across this cat peering over a concrete wall at me in Oia, Santorini right around dusk. I liked the way he was silhouetted against the skyline.

San Diego in Spring
Day trip down to San Diego a little while ago. Spring had definitely sprung; the flowers were in full bloom and the beaches were at full capacity with sunburned tourists. Some Del Mar color (below).

Rusty Lindsey Show
My friend Rusty Lindsey performed at Oreana Winery Tuesday night. Great tunes and wine. Be sure to check out Rusty's website and blog for upcoming shows 'cause he plays a mean harmonica. (Click Photo to Enlarge)
New Project
I found this 1971 Series IIA Land Rover on Craiglist a little while back and apparently I have trouble saying no. I just got it up to speed; here are the first of what I'm sure will be way too many photos taken of the truck. (Click Photo to Enlarge)

Road Tripping
So I've been snapping pictures of vanity plates I've come across in my travels lately (mostly with my Blackberry). Here are a few.

1 HOUR IN WAIKIKI
2 NIGHTS ON THE NORTH SHORE
I wanted to find a pocket camera that could shoot in RAW, so I bought a Canon s90 to bring along and test out on this trip. The design is amazing both in functionality and it's minimalist retro exterior. The camera feels great in hand and it's 'control ring' might be the most useful addition to this type of camera in years. (Pictures above taken with s90)

Pipeline woke up on the second day (Photos above were shot with the Mark III, not the s90)

3 NIGHTS VISITING A FRIEND IN MAUI
Lucky for us she lives close enough to throw a rock at Maui Brew which recently got a major remodel inside. The ice 'mat' that rims the length of the bar is genious for keeping your brew frosty in Hawaii. Gotta love the new Maui Brew even if they did rip off my favorite brew pub, Marin Brewing Co. on the back of their pint glass design. But hey, you know how the saying goes, imitation is the cheapest sincerest form of flattery.

Yep, it's stormy here.
But I'm heading to Hawaii in the morning and the Haleiwa weather report is a balmy 83 degrees. Goodbye rain, hail, thunder and lightning, at least for a little while.

Rincon From Above
I went for a little hike to get this bird's eye perspective of Rincon.
Rincon looks so peaceful from the top of a mountain that you almost forget how crowded it is down below and all the idiots people dropping in (see below).
