Wave Filled December

It's been a longtime since we've had a December this consistently good for surf in Santa Barbara.  We've had more back to back overhead swells, good conditions and the CDIP covered in yellow and orange blobs then we did all last Winter.  Here are some images from Monday at Rincon:

Another WNW Swell

The waves were pretty close to as good as they get in front of the house this weekend.  I shot this sequence of Greg Venable on Sunday, then ran back to the house to put the camera away, throw on my wettie and grab a board.  Sometimes participating takes precedent over documenting.

...and he made it out FYI

RICHARD AVEDON Photographs 1946-2004

I attended the Avedon exhibit at the SFMOMA this past week.  It was a truly amazing collection of photographs by one of America's greatest portrait photographers. Shows like this remind you how impressive large prints in person really are and how much detail is lost in looking at these photographs in a book or online.  There are still a few days left, so don't miss this exhibit.  It is on display until November 29, 2009.  Here are a few favorites:

Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads.

I saw the 'Back to the Future' DeLorean driving on the freeway in San Diego on Friday the 13th.  Classic.

"Are you telling me that you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean? "

Looks like they've added some upgrades since 1985, like iPOD compatibility.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros at Soho last night.  If you weren't a fan of this 10-piece folk-rock band before, seeing them live will make you one.  I haven't had that much fun at a concert in a while. Pick up their debut album, Up From Below and try to catch them on tour.

Santa Monica

I had 20 minutes to kill before a business lunch in Santa Monica so I pulled out the camera and went for a walk. By the way, R + D Kitchen on Montana Avenue is one of my favorites. Great food, great design. Get the Rubenesque sandwich and a Chimay, you won't regret it.

West Beach Music Festival

West Beach Music Festival - taken with my Blackberry. I'm still finding sand everywhere after 3 days of music in a giant sandbox with a thousand + people.
